The German drug maker Bayer is now at the center of a major litigation battle with their multi-billion dollar drug Trayslol. A recent medical study has linked Trayslol to an increased rate of deaths and kidney failure in post-surgery patients. The study found that patients on aprotinin, sold by Bayer under that name Trayslol, had a mortality rate two-thirds greater than patients using different drugs, or none at all. Aprotinin or Trayslol is prescribed for heart-surgery patients with a higher-than-normal risk of bleeding. If you or a family member have suffered a loss, post surgery, call us and we will help you investigate if Trayslol was the cause of the complications. The call is free. We can help determine if Trayslol was a factor with your loss.
It is important that you understand that an unusually high number of deaths, severe kidney damage, heart attacks and strokes have been linked to this drug. An additional study has now linked Aprotinin or Trayslol to deaths and kidney damage and other medical conditions. These recently released Medical Studies can be found in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
The Bayer Corporation contends that Trayslol is normally used on patients at high risk for bleeding and in more complex operations than the generic drugs that were used as controls. The study did not take those factors into account, the company said. Five years after their operations, 20.8 percent of patients treated with aprotinin had died, compared with 12.7 percent of those treated with aminocaproic acid, tranexamic acid, or those not given similar drugs.
The drug Trayslol or Aprotinin was approved in 1993 for high-risk patients, and has been used on other coronary bypass patients since 1998. The Food and Drug Administration is now considering the issues with this drug and the ordering of stronger warning labels.
