Federal and state laws protect employees against retaliation from their employers.  Employers may not retaliate against an employee for:

-    Participating in an investigation of discrimination, filing a complaint of discrimination, or opposing any illegal discrimination
-    Taking family or medical leave, such as taking maternity leave or leave for a serious medical illness
-    Filing a worker's compensation claim
-    Refusing to participate in illegal activity
-    Reporting illegal activity (for public employees and employees in publicly traded companies only)

To prevail in a retaliation claim, courts generally look for some “tangible action” taken by the employer against the employee, such as termination, demotion, or an action that affects your pay.

If you believe your employer has retaliated against you for any of the above reasons, call THE LAW OFFICE OF CARABIN & SHAW at 1-800-862-1260.
