MRI / Gadolinium Alert
Individuals who develop NSF or NFD may experience a thickening of the skin and other organs, which can limit their ability to move, extend joints and can lead to significant pain and even death. Other problems may include dark patches on the skin that appear rough and hard with raised plaques or papules, which are elevations of the skin. Joint and bone pain, as well as swelling of the feet and FDA first warned about NSF and NFD associated with Gadolinium in June of 2006. As of April of 2007, the FDA had received a considerable number of additional cases involving these conditions.
There are five Gadolinium-based contrast agents which are FDA-approved. One is the Omniscan Contrast Dye, manufactured by GE Healthcare. It is designed for intravenous use in MRI for the brain and the spine. In a recent study, five of the nine patients diagnosed with NSF received an MRU involving Omniscan Contrast Dye. Other studies have shown similar results. The other Gadolinium-based agents include OptiMARK, Magnevist, MultiHance and Prohance. Manufactures of these products include Bayer Schering Pharma, GE Healthcare Tyco Healthcare and Bracco Diagnostic, Inc.
We are currently evaluating these Gadolinium-based contrast agents involving patients who have developed nephrogenic systemic fibrosis or Nephrogenic Fibrosing Dermopathy.
Our Law Firm is currently investigating MRI / Gadolinium side effects. If you or a loved oneis suffering from differing skin, joint pain and skin thickening and/or Nephrogenic Systemic Fibrosis (NSF) diagnosis, call our Law Firm. If you or a loved one has a suspicious rash, skin problems, joint pain and muscle weakness with no kidney or renal problems, after undergoing a MRI with contrast call our Office. You may have a claim under a MRI Gadolinium side effect lawsuit against contrast agents Magnevist, MultiHance, Omniscan, OptiMARK and ProHance. If you or someone you love is the victim of gadolinium-induced NSF or NFD, please call our Offices for a Free Case Evaluation. Find out if you are eligible for a settlement or recovery under a gadolinium lawsuit or class action lawsuit for patients with MRI side effects and those with Nephrogenic Systemic Fibrosis (NSF) & Nephrogenic Fibrosing Dermopathy (NFD). FDA Report on Gadolinium
On April 3, 2007, the FDA received 65 cases of Nephrogenic Systemic Fibrosis/Nephrogenic Fibrosing Dermopathy (NSF/NFD). The medical studies and evidence are pointing to current suspicions that MRI contrast agents Omniscan, OptiMARK, Magnevist, MultiHance and ProHance containing gadolinium could cause this rare and potentially fatal disease as a side effect. Nephrogenic fibrosing dermopathy (NFD) originally identified as a Scleromyxoedema-like cutaneous disease in patients with renal disease is a diagnosis of patients with certain skin thickening, joint problems, rashes, skin disorders, bone pain, joint pain, joint stiffening. These symptoms of Scleromyxoedema-like cutaneous disease in patients with renal disease may be NSF. If you or someone you love is the victim of gadolinium-induced NSF or NFD, please call our Offices for a Free Case Evaluation. Gadolinium Side Effects
Last year the medical researchers reported reactions common to MRI contrast agent gadolinium patients including:
- Bone pain in the hips
- Bone pain and tenderness in ribs
- Yellow spots/ plaques near the eyes
- Burning, itching, sharp pains in affected areas
- Reddened patches on the skin
- Ankle / Joint Pain
- Calcification of muscle, skin, tendons
- Hypertension usually precedes skin lesions
- Tightening and swelling of the skin, usually in the extremities
- Symmetrical skin lesions, commonly on the ankles and thighs
- Muscle weakness
- Thickening of the skin around the joints,
- Tightening of skin restricting skin and joint movement
- Skin texture changes one not dissimilar to an orange peel
