Evenflo, a company trusted to keep our children safe, has recently recalled one of their car seat products. The Evenflo Embrace Infant Car Seat/Carrier has caused serious injury to hundreds of infants due to a defect in design. Used as a car seat, the product works perfectly and safely, but used as a carrier, the product turns dangerous. When used as a carrier, the handle can unexpectedly release, causing the carrier to rotate forwards and the infant to fall out of the carrier.

Evenflo has released a recall in cooperation with the CPSC and NHTS after receiving 679 reports of the faulty handle. In the release, Evenflo states that the product is still safe to use as a car seat. Evenflo is sending a repair kit to all registered users of the product. This repair kit will strengthen the handle and prevent future incidents. The only flaw in this plan is that if you did not register your product after purchase, you are not included on this list to receive a repair kit. The recall affects approximately 450,000 units, all manufactured before April 8, 2006. The affected car seat/carriers have model numbers beginning with 317, 320, 397, 398, 540, 548, 549, 550, 556, 597, 598 or 599.

To date they have received 160 injuries to children including skull fracture, two concussions, cuts, scrapes and bruises and alleged wrongful death.
