The Facts about Ketek

An article published by the Annals of Internal Medicine has reported that Ketek (telithromycin), an antibiotic used for serious respiratory and other drug-resistant infections, has been linked to serious liver damage in three patients in the Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. The drug, Ketek may be linked to:

  • Severe liver damage requiring a liver transplant
  • Drug-induced hepatitis
  • Death from liver failure

Patients taking Ketek and their health care providers are advised to watch for signs of liver problems while Ketek is taken.
