Acute Phosphate Nephropathy (APN)?
Acute phosphate nephropathy or (APN) is a rare kidney disorder. This kidney problem is extremely serious and it has now been documented that APN can occurred in patients who have used an oral sodium phosphate solution or (OSPS) as a bowel cleanser prior to undergoing a colonoscopy or colon-rectal surgery. If you or your loved one had no kidney problems or disorders prior to the use of an oral sodium phosphate solution and now are suffering from a kidney problem or kidney failure call our Law Firm immediately ay 1-800-862-1260.
The kidney condition known as acute phosphate nephropathy is sometimes referred to or called acute nephrocalcinosis. Acute phosphate nephropathy can lead to acute renal failure, which can require lifetime medical monitoring, emergency and ongoing dialysis, kidney transplant, and can lead to death. Only recently have the medical experts come forward connecting the use of an oral sodium phosphate solution to kidney problems or renal failure. If you or your loved one had no kidney problems or disorders prior to the use of an oral sodium phosphate solution and now are suffering from a kidney problem or kidney failure call our Law Firm immediately ay 1-800-862-1260.
Connecting OSPS and Acute Phosphate Nephropathy
When one undergoes a bowel cleansing with an OSPS, such as Fleet Phospho-soda one can experience kidney dehydration, decreased intravascular volume, and hyperphosphatemia (an abnormally high level of phosphates in the blood). The hyperphosphatemia increases the levels of phosphates in the kidneys. The decreased intravascular volume leads to further increased phosphate concentration in the kidneys. This can in turn lead to creation of calcium-phosphate crystals in the kidneys, which leads to acute phosphate nephropathy. According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), there are at least 21 proven cases of acute phosphate nephropathy in patients who used an OSPS as a bowel cleanser prior to colonoscopy or colon-rectal surgery.
OSPS products include C.B. Fleet Co., Inc.'s Fleet Phospho-soda, Visicol tablets, Wal-Phosphate products, and CVS brand OSPS products.
Do Not Avoid Colonoscopy
The medical procedure of a Colonoscopy is a highly effective medical diagnostic tool for the early detection of several different types of cancer. If you are scheduled for a colonoscopy but concerned about the risk of acute phosphate nephropathy or chronic kidney disease, talk to your doctor about your concerns and these most recent findings and warnings. Your doctor can perform a screening procedure before the colonoscopy to help determine what type of bowel-cleansing product will be safe for you to use and lessen or eliminate any risk of kidney issues.
If you or a family member have suffered kidney dysfunction or acute renal failure — following the use of Phospho-soda or another OSPS — you may be entitled to financial compensation, with the help of a knowledgeable injury lawyer. If you or a family member have suffered an acute kidney failure after using Fleet Phospho-soda or another oral sodium phosphate product, I urge you to contact my office as soon as possible to learn about your legal options. We can meet in person at my office, in your home or over the phone or we can in some cases come to you. Allow us to give you a straightforward evaluation of your case.
