The accident occurred Monday morning at roughly 11:22 a.m., on the southwest side of San Antonio on 1-35 South and Fischer Road, near Loop 410. The accident backed up traffic for hours, though it is unclear at this time what caused the accident, according to KSAT12. Images show one of the big rigs completely detached from its trailer, while another was rolled over on the side of the road. The final was a cattle trailer, which had jackknifed. There were no reports detailing injuries.<\/p>\n<p>Accidents with 18-wheelers can be devastating. The sheer size and weight of a big rig can \u2013 and usually does \u2013 completely devastate a passenger vehicle. The injuries sustained as a result of an 18-wheeler accident are usually very severe and can include head trauma, broken bones, spinal fractures, and brain damage. Additionally, damages to the vehicle are usually very devastating as passenger vehicles are easily crushed by the immense force of a tractor-trailer. With the recent and rapid industrial growth of San Marcos, the \u201cInnovation Corridor\u201d meets San Antonio on its South and moves through Austin to its North. This has increased the number of 18-wheelers in that area \u2013 and subsequently, the number of accidents involving them. Accidents with commercial vehicles can be caused by numerous factors, including overloaded vehicles, distracted drivers, or traveling at unsafe speeds without the appropriate following distance (speeding and reckless driving).
