Motorcyclists are at extreme risk on Texas roads.
3 Fatal Accidents in 48 Hours Prompt Safety Reminders for San Antonio Motorcyclists
According to a News4SanAntonio report, three motorcyclists have been killed in a tragic 48-hour period across the city, prompting urgent safety reminders.
The first accident occurred on Saturday, July 26th, at around 11 p.m. on I-10 West near UTSA Boulevard on the Northwest Side. 20-year-old Nicholas Galindo was racing another motorcyclist when he was struck by an 18-wheeler changing lanes, throwing him from his bike. Police say other vehicles may have struck him as well. EMS pronounced him dead at the scene.
Just 24 hours later, two more fatal accidents happened mere hours apart.
The first occurred at 8 p.m. Sunday, July 27th, at the intersection of Southwest Military Drive and Logwood Avenue on the South Side. 25-year-old Chandler Krueger allegedly sped through a red light, crashing into a pickup, throwing him from his motorcycle. He then struck another vehicle, and the pickup burst into flames. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and two others were treated for minor injuries.
Later that evening, at around 10:40 p.m., a second motorcycle accident occurred on I-35 near O’Connor Road on the Northeast Side. 46-year-old Wayne McBride lost control of his motorcycle for unknown reasons, crashing along the highway. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and no other information was provided.
A local non-profit held a meeting honoring the victims at Caliente Harley-Davidson, where they urged motorcyclists to remember “ride smart, stay alive.”

Motorcycle Safety Reminders for Texas Riders (And What to Do If You’re Hurt)
Riding a motorcycle is popular—but it comes with serious risks, especially in high-traffic areas like San Antonio. Between construction zones, large commercial trucks, and distracted drivers, motorcyclists are uniquely vulnerable in the event of a crash.
If you choose to ride, here are a few key safety reminders:
#1 — Always Wear a Helmet
Even though helmets aren’t legally required for all adult riders in Texas, they remain your first line of defense. In 2024 alone, 37% of the 585 motorcyclists killed in Texas were not wearing helmets at the time of the crash. The added visibility and protection can save your life.
#2 — Follow Speed Limits and Traffic Signals
Speeding, weaving through traffic, or running red lights increases your risk of serious or fatal injury. Two of the three recent crashes involved riders reportedly traveling at unsafe speeds. Even experienced riders can misjudge how fast another vehicle is approaching.
#3 — Watch for Blind Spots—Especially Near Trucks
Motorcyclists are often unseen by larger vehicles. If you’re riding near an 18-wheeler or delivery truck, remember: if you can’t see the driver’s mirrors, they probably can’t see you. Give trucks space, avoid riding between lanes, and stay out of “no zones.”
#4 — Avoid Riding While Fatigued or Impaired
Even one drink, one sleepless night, or one moment of distraction can result in life-altering consequences when you’re on two wheels. Stay alert and fully focused every time you ride.
What to Do If You’re Injured in a Motorcycle Accident in Texas
If you’ve been seriously injured in a motorcycle crash—especially one caused by another driver—you may be entitled to compensation for your medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering. But motorcycle injury cases can be complicated.
Motorcyclists are often unfairly blamed for accidents, even when the other driver was clearly at fault. That’s why it’s critical to:
-
Seek medical attention immediately, even for “minor” injuries
-
Document the scene and gather witness information if possible
-
Avoid talking to insurance before seeking legal counsel
-
Speak with an experienced motorcycle accident attorney as soon as you can
