An hour earlier on the same night, a man was taken to the hospital in critical condition after a brutal two-vehicle accident on the North side of San Antonio. On the Northeast Side in the 6100 block of FM 78, near Lakeview Drive, as per initial information, a single-vehicle motorcycle accident occurred, leaving a man suffering severe injuries on Sunday night. The victim was driving a 2007 Honda motorcycle northbound when his motorbike collided with a concrete median. The collision’s impact led to the rider sustaining severe injuries after the crash. Someone who witnessed this devastating accident assisted the motor vehicle rider and explained to the police what had happened. Reportedly the motorcycle rider was not wearing a helmet when the crash occurred. When the emergency personnel arrived at the scene, they hastily rushed him to a hospital with critical injuries somewhat after 9:15 p.m.

Determining who is at fault in a motorcycle accident can be challenging. Having an experienced and knowledgeable lawyer on your side is essential to help determine who is at fault. For example, you can sometimes lose control of your motorbike due to a manufacturing defect. The motorcycle’s front and rear tires must be aligned correctly in order to make the front end stable at high speeds and to avoid wobbling. If this high-speed wobble causes an accident, whether caused by poor manufacturing or negligent work done by a repair shop, those parties may be liable for injuries and damages. If you find yourself injured due to someone else’s negligence, our San Antonio personal injury attorneys are ready to help you.

(June 24, 2022) A devastating accident occurred Wednesday evening in south Laredo. This accident happened near the intersection of Jamie Zapata Highway and Los Presidentes. Both automobile drivers explained to the officers that they saw a green light before driving off and then collided with the light post, according to the Laredo Police Department.

According to reports, emergency responders found two 19-year-old victims riding in the same vehicle. It was a multiple-car crash that tragically left a man and a woman in critical condition. When the emergency personnel arrived at the scene, they had to call a rescue team to assist in unpinning a woman from the automobile. She needed serious medical attention and was hastily brought to LMC in critical condition. The man was taken to the same hospital in serious condition. However, due to his extensive injuries, Laredo police state he was later flown to a San Antonio hospital to receive medical attention.

In devastating accidents such as this one, there are numerous situations in which you can sustain injuries ranging in severity. Because every auto accident is different, there are many types of factors that can lead to injuries suffered. For example, the speed at which the vehicle was moving, what caused the collision, and how critical the impact was are some of the many factors involved in auto accidents.

(June 16, 2022) Yesterday, on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, an adult care facility went viral after a TikTok video showed deplorable living conditions, allegedly being ignored by staff. KENS5 reported that this New Braunfels facility was shown to have moldy ceilings and human waste on the floor, among other things, that the staff claimed to be unable to take care of due to “privacy issues.” The residents of this care facility can have intellectual or developmental disabilities that do not allow them to properly communicate with the staff, according to the report. The company that operates the River Gardens Care Facility, Caregiver Inc., released a statement saying that the viewers of the videos did not have context and that their staff reacts swiftly to restore a safe environment. The statement also pointed out that the facility had received no deficiencies after its state audit last year. In an apparent contradiction, a former employee who spoke to reporters at KENS5, Peggy Martin, stated that she was not surprised it “had gotten worse” since her leaving the company last year. Additionally, Texas Health and Human Services told KENS5 that they were aware of the allegations against the facility and that they were actively investigating. The CEO of Caregiver Inc., Mark Lashley, stated that they would be working with their employees at the River Gardens Center to immediately address necessary repairs and restore a safe environment.

Assisted Living Neglect and/or Abuse in San Antonio

Nursing home neglect is an unfortunately common occurrence here in San Antonio. Most families cannot afford to provide the emotionally and physically taxing challenge of the round-the-clock care that the elderly and disabled need. When they turn to nursing homes and assisted living facilities, they believe that they are entrusting the care of their loved ones to experienced and trained professionals. This is not always true, as is the case in the above story. Common signs of nursing home or assisted living neglect are bedsores, patient depression or withdrawal, and unexplained marks, cuts, or bruises. We understand that each case is unique, so if you think your loved one may be the victim of abuse and/or neglect from an assisted living facility, contact an experienced attorney as soon as possible.

(June 9, 2022) Two crashes caused by negligent drivers going the wrong way left three people dead nearly a month apart. KSAT12 reported an incident on May 8, 2022, on Bandera Road near Zachry drive, where a driver of a white van going the wrong way struck two vehicles at around 10:30 a.m. He was found unresponsive at the scene, and then he died later at the hospital. The other two drivers were seriously injured though they did not receive any life-threatening injuries and were in stable condition. It was not reported whether or not the driver was under the influence of alcohol.

Another incident on June 5, 2022, found a driver heading northbound on South Interstate Highway 37. The driver of the 2013 Ford Focus collided with another driver of a 2011 Toyota Corolla at around 2:30 a.m., as reported by KSAT12. The driver of the Toyota was sent into another vehicle and then redirected into a grassy median due to the impact. Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene.

Head-on collision accidents usually have very serious consequences. The damage to vehicles and drivers is almost always severe or life-threatening. It is also nearly impossible to avoid a driver traveling the wrong way. The time after a serious accident is emotionally taxing enough without having the additional burden of the legal complexities of auto accident law and insurance companies. Especially if you lost a loved one due to the negligence of another driver, the last thing you want to do is deal with insurance companies who want you to settle for less than your full legal compensation.

(June 9, 2022) Today, on June 9, 2022, at around 3:40 a.m. KSAT 12 reported that an officer crashed into a tow truck while responding to an accident. Police say that the officer was driving over the hill on Loop 410 and Summit Parkway on the Northwest side of San Antonio when for unknown reasons, she collided with the tow truck parked near the side of the road. The officer was responding to a single-vehicle rollover, where a woman apparently lost control of her vehicle when exiting the highway. A tow truck that was helping at another accident nearby stopped to help the woman whose condition was not reported. The officer who collided with the tow truck sustained only minor injuries and was transported to the hospital to get checked out. The driver of the SUV said that she had not been able to locate her dog, a chihuahua mix, who went missing after the accident. The investigation is still ongoing.

In the case of a single-vehicle rollover accident, it is usually impossible to move the damaged vehicle off the road to a safer location. However, if you are in an accident and you are not seriously injured, or if your vehicle is not damaged in a way that makes moving it impossible, it is recommended that you move your vehicle off of the road to a nearby parking lot when waiting for emergency services. In Texas, it is state law that vehicles be moved off the highway for a fender-bender or minor accident. This is in order to keep you, the other driver, and emergency responders safe. Texas highways, especially at night, are not a place you want to be stopped, as other drivers are not expecting it, and visibility can be greatly reduced at night. Finding a safe place off of major roads is a good way to prevent further injury or damage to yourself and your vehicle after a Texas auto accident. (May 26, 2022) Two people are in critical condition, and one person has only minor injuries after a rollover accident on the Far West Side on Saturday, May 21, 2022, according to KSAT News. Authorities are unclear as to what caused the accident or whether drugs or alcohol were involved. The accident happened on Marbach Road and Pue Road at around 12:30 a.m. when an SUV collided with a Jeep and rolled over. The woman driver had to be extracted from the vehicle with Jaws of Life and was transported to a local hospital along with her passenger in critical condition. The driver of the Jeep was also taken to the hospital but fortunately only sustained minor injuries. This happened less than a week after a four-vehicle accident on Tuesday, May 16, 2022, also on the Far West Side, according to NEWS4SA. A driver ran a red light at an intersection at Potranco and Stevens Parkway around 8:15 p.m. No other details were provided, except that at least two people were transported to the hospital. Their conditions are unknown.

It is possible for any vehicle to roll over. However, SUVs and Pickup trucks are more prone to rollover accidents due to their high center of gravity. Although accounting for a mere 3 percent of all auto accidents, rollover accidents are among the worst types of accidents to experience. Because it is likely that the vehicle occupants will be ejected, the injuries sustained are usually severe if not deadly. Sadly, rollover accidents account for 10,000 deaths a year, or thirty-five percent of all traffic fatalities. Sixty-nine percent of deaths in rollover accidents are caused by the motorist’s failure to wear safety restraints. Design flaws can also be a contributing factor. If this is the case, the manufacturer may be liable for damages.

(May 26, 2022) On Thursday, May 19, 2022, a woman died after crashing violently into a ditch, according to KENS 5 News. The accident occurred early morning at around 2:15 AM off of I-35 and Binz-Eagleman on San Antonio’s Eastside. At first, the police assumed she had somehow driven directly off of the highway, judging by how mangled the vehicle was. However, later they determined she had most likely exited onto the access road before crashing, according to the report. Emergency medical services tried to save the woman, whose name had not been released, but they were unsuccessful, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Safe driving habits for driving at night:

There are a few differences between driving in the daytime and driving at night. Following a few extra rules is critical for staying safe on Texas roads at night.

(May 20, 2022) Late Thursday night, around 11 P.M., a 35-year-old man was struck by a motor vehicle while trying to cross the street, according to KSAT news. The accident occurred around North Zarzamora road on the 1700 block of Fredericksburg Road, just north of Downtown near Interstate 10. Police stated that though the driver did not stop to render aid, he was not found to be intoxicated, and no charges are currently being filed. The pedestrian, whose name has not been released, was taken to University Hospital last night in critical condition. His name was not released. There have been no updates as of this morning.

Texas Accidents on the Rise

On March 14, 2022, the TxDOT reported that 2021 marked the second-deadliest year for Texas roadways, with 4,480 people killed. That is a mere two hundred and twenty-one less than the deadliest year since 1940, reported in 1981. Several thousand of these deaths were caused by the simple but devastating mistakes of not wearing a seatbelt or driving over the posted speed limit. 2021 also saw a 15% increase in fatalities over 2020, with an 18.4% increase in the first half of the year alone. The TxDOT is tracking accidents to determine where roads need to be improved to make our roads safer. However, the primary responsibility for safe roads in Texas lies in the hands of Texas motorists. Commissioner Laura Ryan said, “Driving behavior is the cause, but also one of the most important solutions. This is not blame. These are the facts. We all have a role.” If you or someone you love has been affected by the careless actions of a Texas motorist, you may be entitled to legal compensation. (May 11, 2022) An elderly woman was killed by a suspected drunk driver while on a neighborhood walk with her son late yesterday morning on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, as reported by KSAT News. The woman, Irma Lozano, age 78, had stopped for a few moments to chat with a neighbor on the sidewalk near Oak Hill Road while her son moved on a little way. It was then that a driver of a gray Ford Edge jumped the curb and drove straight into the woman right in front of her neighbor’s eyes. The driver continued at high speed until crashing into a nearby tree, “she hit it so hard it came out with a root,” Lily Delgado, the neighbor who was speaking to Irma Lozano, told KSAT. Irma Lozano died at the scene. The woman who was driving the car was transported to the hospital by ambulance, where the police charged her with intoxicated manslaughter. Her condition is unknown, and her name has not been released.

Intoxicated drivers claim many lives every year. Many drivers understand they are always accepting some risk when they get behind the wheel of an automobile, but to be killed by another’s careless and selfish actions when you were simply trying to enjoy a neighborhood stroll with your family is inexcusable.
