Mustang Rolls Over, Crashes Into Mexican Restaurant Early Sunday Morning

According to a KSAT News report, a driver rolled his vehicle and hit a building in an early-morning accident this Sunday.

Police reported the accident occurred at around 3 a.m. at the Jimador #2 Mexican Restaurant on the 12400 block of Nacogdoches Road. For unknown reasons, the yellow Mustang lost control and flipped over in front of the restaurant. Police found exterior damage to the restaurant when they arrived, but no one was reported injured. The restaurant was still open for business later that morning, according to KSAT. Police are still looking into what caused the crash.

Did You Know?

A majority of fatal rollover accidents occur on weekends.

Explained: What Causes Rollover Accidents at Night

Statistically speaking, you’re more likely to be in a car accident at night. Surprisingly, though, only about one-third of rollover accidents happen at night.

Rollover accidents are among the most deadly accidents to occur, largely due to the risk of ejection from the vehicle. Tripping hazards, improperly loaded cargo, and speeding often contribute to rollover accidents during the daytime, which constitutes two-thirds of all rollover accidents. However, drivers are presented with unique hazards when driving at night that contribute to these often deadly accidents.

Let’s take a look at the most common causes of rollover accidents at night so you can be properly equipped to avoid them.

Top 3 Causes of Rollover Accidents at Night

Every accident is unique, but there are common factors that contribute to night-time rollover accidents:

  • Low-Visibility — Tripping is the main reason rollovers happen. The ability to see hazards on the road is significantly reduced at night, giving drivers less time to avoid them. 40% of fatal single-vehicle rollovers had no crash-avoidance behavior, possibly suggesting the driver’s inability to see the object before they hit it.
  • Drunk Driving — Alcohol significantly reduces a person’s ability to make logical decisions and reaction time. This combination makes it more likely that a driver will roll their vehicle in an accident. Positive BACs are associated with fatal single-vehicle rollovers.
  • Drowsy Driving — Drowsy driving is almost as dangerous as drunk driving. An over-tired driver will have reduced perception and reaction times. In combination with reduced visibility, this is a perfect storm for a serious single-vehicle rollover accident.

Other contributing factors include driver error, such as speeding, tailgating, and improperly loaded luggage. The best way to avoid a rollover accident at night is to drive responsibly. However, you can do everything right and be an excellent driver and still be injured in a night-time rollover accident. Especially during Fiesta and other holidays when drunk driving is high, the risk of being injured in a night-time rollover accident is increased, even if you don’t celebrate.

You should never have to pay for someone’s stupid mistake.
