Mustang Loses Control and Crashes into an East Side Home, Hitting Gas Line

Faulty parts or poor manufacturing can cause a vehicle to malfunction at a critical moment.

Driver Loses Control of Mustang, Crashes into Home

According to a KSAT News report, a driver lost control of their vehicle and crashed into a home on the East Side last Thursday.

Police reported the accident happened at the 730 block of South Mittman Street near Martin Luther King Drive and South Walters Street just after 10 p.m. on February 15th. A driver of a Mustang reportedly lost control of their vehicle, crashing through a fence and then onto the front porch of an East Side home. There was no structural damage or injuries reported, but the driver did strike a gas line. The driver was not intoxicated and claimed that a vehicle malfunction caused the crash.

Did You Know?

Vehicle malfunctions cause roughly 2% of auto accidents.

The Top 3 Car Defects That Cause Accidents in San Antonio

You don’t often hear about cars malfunctioning and causing an accident. After all, negligence is the most common reason why auto accidents happen in the United States.

However, while 2% may seem like a small number, that’s still 120,000 accidents per year caused by malfunctioning or faulty parts. Defects that should’ve been caught long before vehicles are ever released to the public cause thousands of people to be seriously injured or killed.

Airbag Defects

Airbag defects are more common than you might think. Airbags can both fail to deploy in accidents and can randomly deploy when no accident has happened. These defects can be caused by:

  • Severed Wiring,
  • Faulty Electrical Components,
  • Defective Sensors,
  • Defects in Modules,
  • and the Nature of the Collision.

When airbags go off randomly, they can seriously injure the driver and cause them to lose control of the vehicle. When faulty airbags fail to deploy, people who otherwise may have survived accidents tragically lose their lives.

Faulty Brakes

Brake failure is incredibly dangerous. Brakes often fail due to a brake line fault. They require brake fluid to function properly, so if the brake line leaks, the brakes won’t work at all.

Other reasons for brake failure include:

  • Corroded Brake Lines
  • Worn Brake Pads
  • Brake Cylinder Failure
  • Poor Brake Hoses

In many of these cases, defects in the design or manufacturing process are to blame. Bad or improperly installed parts can cause brake failure, leading to sometimes catastrophic accidents at no fault of the driver.

Defective Electrical Systems

Even vehicles that run on gas are dependent on the electrical system to function. The electrical system controls the lights, ignition, and other essential aspects of your vehicle.

Electrical systems can fail due to:

  • Faulty Fuses,
  • Malfunctioning Alternators,
  • Faulty Wiring,
  • Faulty Starter Motors,
  •  and Bad Spark Plugs.

If your lights suddenly stop working, it will not only affect your ability to see but also the ability of other drivers to see you. This can lead to serious accidents in dark or inclement weather conditions.

Even if a defect only partially contributed to your accident, it may still be appropriate to sue the manufacturer or retailer of your vehicle.
