Two Social Media Influencers Injured After Vehicle Plows Into Houston Restaurant

What happens if you’re injured by a car at a restaurant?

Man, Woman Injured After Vehicle Plows Into Houston Restaurant Where They Were Filming a Food Review

According to a News4SanAntonio report, two food influencers suffered minor injuries after a car crashed into the restaurant where they were filming.¹

The accident happened around 4 p.m. Saturday, August 16th, at Cuvée’s Culinary Creations on Eldridge Parkway in Houston. Two influencers, Nina Unrated and Patrick Blackstone, were sitting near the window filming a food review when a vehicle slammed into the restaurant. Both suffered cuts from shattered glass and later shared videos of themselves receiving stitches at the hospital.

Police said the driver’s foot slipped while she was operating a rental car. A sobriety test came back negative, but officers confirmed she was at fault for the crash.

The restaurant’s owner told reporters the dining room was empty aside from the two influencers. A private party was scheduled later that evening, which the driver was attending. Despite the damage, the restaurant remains open while repairs are underway.

Did You Know?

In 2024, 2,176 accidents in Texas were caused by an improper start from a parked position.

Risks of Vehicle-Into-Building Accidents

Crashes like this may seem rare, but they happen more often than most people think. The Storefront Safety Council reports that thousands of vehicle-into-building crashes occur each year across the U.S. These incidents lead to injuries, deaths, and significant property damage.

Causes can include pressing the wrong pedal, distracted driving, intoxication, or even sudden medical emergencies. In this case, police confirmed the driver pressed the wrong pedal. Even though alcohol wasn’t involved, drivers can still be held responsible when their mistakes injure others.

Legal Considerations in Restaurant or Storefront Crashes

When a car crashes into a business and injures people inside, different parties may be involved in the legal process:

  • The Driver – Usually, the at-fault driver (or their insurance) must pay for injuries and damage.

  • The Business – Sometimes, the business may be questioned if it lacked protective barriers that could have reduced harm.

  • Third Parties – If the car was rented, liability could involve the rental company under certain circumstances.

Victims may be entitled to compensation for medical bills, lost income, property damage, and pain and suffering. Because more than one insurance company may be involved, cases like these often need help from an experienced attorney.

Protecting Yourself as a Patron

Accidents like this one are unpredictable, but there are steps you can take to stay safer when dining or shopping:

  • Try to avoid sitting right next to large glass windows facing busy streets or parking lots.

  • Notice if the business has safety barriers or bollards outside.

  • Always seek medical care after an accident — even small cuts or bruises can lead to serious problems later.
