Woman Charged With Intoxication Manslaughter for Deadly 3-Vehicle Crash Yesterday Morning

Driving drunk impairs your vision and mental capacity, significantly increasing your risk of accidents.

Woman Arrested for Crash That Killed a Woman Yesterday Morning

According to a KSAT News report, a woman was arrested and charged with intoxication manslaughter in connection to a deadly three-vehicle accident yesterday morning.

Police reported that Giovanna Blangiardo, 35, was driving a Chevy SUV westbound on the 1400 block of Potranco Road when she swerved into eastbound traffic. She collided with a Toyota SUV head-on, and a Nissan SUV crashed in between them in an attempt to avoid the accident. Blangiardo and the driver of the Toyota had to be extracted from their vehicles and taken to the hospital, where the driver of the Toyota was later pronounced dead. Blangiardo was charged with intoxication manslaughter and was booked by proxy.

Jail Time and DWI Offense in San Antonio

The consequences of driving drunk in San Antonio are severe — jail time, license suspension, insurance rate hikes, and fines, to name a few. But people already know that; they choose to do it anyway. Maybe they think it’s not a big deal, or they won’t get caught.

It is a big deal, and as the city takes an increasingly aggressive stance towards drunk driving, you’re more likely to be caught. Let’s take a deeper look into one of the consequences of this incredibly dangerous action — jail time.

Do You Get Arrested for a First-Time DWI Offense?

Texas has a mandatory 3 days of jail time for DWI offenses, though this rule has some exceptions.

A judge may decide not to enforce the 3 days jail time in favor of a similar punishment depending on the specifics of your case. Sometimes, probation (being watched by authorities but not in jail) or community service is chosen instead.

Generally speaking, you will serve 3 days of jail time for your DWI offense.

The Booking Procedure

When you are arrested for drunk driving, you are usually taken into custody and “booked” at the county jail. The booking process varies, but generally will follow these steps:

  1. Record Important Info — Name, contact info, nature of the crime, and other info from the citation.
  2. Mug Shot — You will stand or sit for a variety of photos known collectively as “mug shots.”
  3. Property Confiscation — Your clothing and personal belongings will be taken, and you will be given a jail uniform.
  4. Fingerprinting — Other DNA samples may also be required.
  5. Search — You will be strip searched to ensure you aren’t carrying contraband.
  6. Warrant Search — To see if you’ve committed any other crimes.
  7. Health Check — Ensuring you aren’t in need of medical care or a threat to others.
  8. Incarceration — You will placed in a holding cell.

After the booking process is complete, you will be permitted to make a phone call. Call a criminal defense attorney or a family member who can get one for you with this call.
