3-Vehicle Crash Leaves Man Critically Injured, Truck With a Trailer Flipped Over on the Northeast Side
According to a KSAT News report, a man was critically injured at a Northeast-side intersection this morning.
Police reported the accident happened at around 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 16th, at the intersection of I-35 access road and Eisenhauer on the Northeast side. The accident involved three vehicles–a box truck, a Subaru, and a truck with a trailer. One of the vehicles ran a red light, but the report was not clear on which vehicle it was. The Subaru driver, a man, was taken to the hospital with critical injuries. The box truck driver was taken to the hospital as a precaution. A photo from the report showed the truck with a trailer flipped over on the side of the road, but no other injuries were reported. The investigation is ongoing.

Accidents at Intersections in San Antonio
Intersections are hotspots for bad accidents.
Drivers are often challenged by numerous factors, including pedestrians, traffic from multiple directions, and keeping track of multiple signs and signals when driving through intersections. The FHWA estimates that roughly 25% of all traffic fatalities and 50% of traffic injuries nationwide occur at intersections each year. Understanding why these accidents happen can help responsible drivers avoid them–understanding your rights after an accident can help you recover compensation when you’re injured in an intersection accident that wasn’t your fault.
Why Do Intersection Accidents Happen?
To no one’s surprise, intersection accidents are most commonly caused by driver error.
The TxDOT tracks accident causes across the state each year. In 2023, accidents at intersections were caused by various driver errors, including:
- Disregarding Stop/Go Signal: 21,738 total accidents
- Disregarding Stop Sign or Stop Light: 16,484 total accidents
- Disregarding Turn Marks in an Intersection: 2,860 total accidents
- Failed to Signal or Signaled Incorrectly: 805 total accidents
- Failed to Stop at the Proper Place: 3,087 total accidents
- Failed to ROW:
- In Open Intersection: 6,800 total accidents
- To Pedestrian: 1,411 total accidents
- While Turning Right on Red: 2,789 total accidents
- While Turning Left: 36,509 total accidents
- Pedestrian Failing to Yield to Vehicle: 2,551 total accidents
- Improper Turn:
- Cut Corner on Left: 2,448 total accidents
- Wide Right: 4,472 total accidents
- Wrong Lane: 6,821 total accidents
- Wrong Side of the Road: 549 total accidents
All of these simple, completely avoidable mistakes can cause catastrophic accidents like t-bone collisions, rear-end and sideswipe accidents, and pedestrian accidents–and these often result in critical injuries, extensive property damage, and in the worst case, death.
Your Rights After an Intersection Accident That Wasn’t Your Fault
If you’re injured in an intersection accident caused by a negligent driver that wasn’t your fault, whether as a driver, passenger, or pedestrian, you have the right to seek compensation from the responsible party for injuries and property damage.
The compensation you are entitled to will directly reflect the losses you suffered. That’s why it’s different from case to case. Some common expenses that are covered by personal injury claims after a car accident include things like:
- Ambulance Costs,
- ER Treatment,
- Surgeries,
- Medical Bills,
- Pain and Suffering,
- Property Damage,
- Missed Work,
- Trauma/PTSD,
- And Wrongful Death.

What If the Accident Was Partially My Fault?
Texas law allows you to collect compensation for your injuries as long as you are NOT 51% responsible for the accident, but your compensation will be reduced by how much you contributed to the accident.
For example, let’s say you fail to properly signal while turning through an intersection, and someone rear-ends you. It turns out the driver who rear-ended you was on their phone and following you too closely. When you take the case to court, a jury finds that you are 25% responsible for the accident and the other driver is 75% responsible.
The compensation you would have originally received was $100,000. But, since you were found to be 25% responsible, you can now only collect $75,000. The other driver would collect nothing because they were over 50% responsible.
