Aggressive Dogs Hospitalize Two People in Unrelated Incidents This Week

According to KSAT News reports this week, two men are in the hospital following aggressive dog attacks in central San Antonio and on the Northeast Side.

The first victim was a 68-year-old man walking in his neighborhood when a loose dog attacked him. He received serious injuries to the legs, head, and groin area before neighbors rescued him. He was taken to the hospital by responding EMS, and Animal Control Services took the dog. The dog’s owner was aware of the dog’s aggressive tendencies and was arrested for injury to an elderly causing serious bodily injury and a dangerous dog attack.

The second victim was a 46-year-old man who was attacked by his neighbor’s dogs in his own backyard. He was reportedly smoking when the dogs crawled underneath the fence and attacked him. He was bitten on both arms and his stomach and is in critical condition in the hospital. The owner is cooperating with the investigation, and Animal Control Services took the dogs.

Compensation for Dog Bite Attacks in San Antonio

San Antonio is currently experiencing a lot of dog attacks. Animal Control Services and City officials are working towards reducing the number of aggressive dog attacks with budget increases and new programs.

But, if you were bitten by an aggressive dog in San Antonio, it’s important to know that you may be entitled to compensation for your injuries.

Types of Compensation in Dog Attacks Explained

Very few of the cases ACS handles are from dogs with no owner — that means if an aggressive dog attacked you, it likely has a negligent owner. The types of compensation you can receive in a serious dog attack case in San Antonio are as follows:

  • Medical Bills — Doctors’ bills, hospital services, and other medical expenses are the most obvious type of compensation you can claim. This includes treatment for existing injuries made worse by a dog attack.
  • Pain and Suffering — These damages are calculated on a case-by-case basis, largely dependent on the extent of injuries and the victim’s age. A child can experience significantly more trauma than an adult after a dog attack. Also, if someone is permanently disfigured, this will affect how much they will receive of this type of compensation.
  • Lost Income — A victim of a dog attack has the right to be reimbursed for lost income or loss of a job if they can no longer work following an attack.
  • Punitive Damages — The owner of the aggressive dog may be required to pay “punishment” damages if they were aware of the dog’s aggressive behavior and recklessly allowed to escape.

If the owner of the aggressive dog is charged with a crime, you can still file a personal injury claim against them. If you suffered a serious dog bite injury or if you lost a loved one in a dog attack, call the Carabin Shaw Law Firm.
