Tragic Commercial Vehicle Accident in Seguin Leaves One Dead, Others Injured
According to a News4SanAntonio report, a commercial vehicle crash near I-10 in Seguin killed one driver and left two others hospitalized on Wednesday morning.¹
Police say the accident happened around 6:30 a.m. on October 22nd along North SH 123 at the Interstate 10 intersection. A white Hino straight truck traveling westbound on I-10 reportedly veered off the roadway, falling onto the northbound lanes of SH 123 Bypass. The truck struck a gray sedan before landing on a red sedan.
63-year-old Anthony Stephenson of Seguin was identified as the driver of the red sedan and was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver and the gray sedan’s driver were taken to the hospital, though their conditions have not been released.

Fatal Commercial Vehicle Accidents in Texas: What You Should Know
Crashes involving large commercial vehicles are almost always serious — and far too often, deadly. The Seguin accident is another reminder of the devastating impact a single truck can cause when control is lost.
When a vehicle weighing 10 or 20 times more than a standard car leaves its lane, the outcome can be catastrophic. Survivors often face severe injuries, mounting medical costs, and lasting emotional trauma.
Why Commercial Vehicle Accidents Are So Dangerous
Commercial trucks are designed for power and endurance, but their size and weight make them difficult to control and stop. Common contributing factors include:
-
Driver Fatigue – Long hours and tight delivery schedules push some drivers beyond safe limits.
-
Improper Maintenance – Brake failures, worn tires, or other mechanical issues can make stopping impossible.
-
Overloaded Cargo – Extra weight reduces maneuverability and increases the risk of rollovers.
-
Distracted or Impaired Driving – Even a brief lapse in focus can lead to disaster.
Because these vehicles fall under both state and federal safety regulations, investigations often involve multiple agencies and require a detailed look into logbooks, maintenance reports, and equipment inspections.
Who Can Be Held Responsible?
Commercial vehicle crashes are rarely simple. Depending on the cause, several parties may share responsibility, including:
-
The Driver – If they were speeding, distracted, or driving while fatigued.
-
The Trucking Company – If it failed to maintain the vehicle or pressured drivers to meet unsafe deadlines.
-
Maintenance or Loading Contractors – If poor work or unsafe cargo contributed to the crash.
-
Manufacturers – If a defective part caused or worsened the collision.
Identifying fault in these cases requires careful investigation — sometimes including black-box data from the truck and expert reconstruction of the accident scene.
