Man Driving at Over 100 mph Kills Woman and Her Daughter in Horrific Accident

Speeding is a top contributing factor in many major accidents.

Man Kills Two Women While Driving Over 100 mph, Charged with Manslaughter

According to a San Antonio Express-News report, a man has been charged with manslaughter after killing two women in a high-speed accident.

Police reported the incident occurred on Monday, November 27th, south of San Antonio at the Texas 16 and Smith Road intersection. The man told investigators that he was late for work where he had recently received a promotion. After pulling data from the vehicle, investigators determined he was traveling at around 116 to 117 mph when he struck Linda and Julie Perry, who were attempting a U-turn. Their vehicle spun several times before rolling over, and both women were pronounced dead at the scene. He was charged with manslaughter.

Did You Know?

Speeding is a contributing factor to one-third of motor vehicle fatalities every year.

Speeding in the Lone Star State

Texas has the most miles of road in the entire country and not-so-great public transportation. It’s not surprising that the average Texan drives more than 14,000 miles per year. We also have greater than average rates of speeding accidents.

It’s well-known that Texas drivers are generally more reckless and tend to disregard the speed limit more frequently than other drivers. But we shouldn’t — speeding is dangerous and puts your life and the lives of others on the road in peril.

Let’s look at why speeding is so dangerous and what to do if you’ve been in an accident with a speeding driver.

Why Speeding is Dangerous

I know what you’re thinking.

“Speeding is no big deal. I do it all the time, and I’ve never been in an accident. Besides, if I don’t drive over the speed limit, I’ll never get where I’m going.”

Everyone who gets in a fatal accident because of speeding was probably thinking the exact same thing. No one thinks they’re going to lose control of their vehicle, spin out, or miss the turn — but thousands of people do, and they die or kill other people as a result every year.

Speeding reduces a driver’s reaction time and increases the severity of auto accidents. The most common accidents associated with speeding include:

  • Intersection Collisions
  • Pedestrian Accidents
  • Rollover Accidents
  • Rear-End Collisions
  • Head-On Collisions

Unfortunately, many of these types of accidents have high fatality rates. Injuries are almost always severe, if not fatal, and include things like:

  • TBI
  • Spinal Cord Injury
  • Broken Bones
  • Burns
  • Cuts

All of them are avoidable. Is being on time to work or the movies really worth your life and the lives of drivers around you? Leave early, plan your route, and drive the speed limit.

What to Do if A Speeding Driver Hit You

Immediately after a speeding driver hits you, follow these steps:

  • Check on Passengers
  • Call the Police and EMS
  • Exchange Information with the Other Driver
  • Take Photos of the Scene
  • Call Your Insurance to Report the Accident
  • Hire a Personal Injury Attorney

Remember, don’t talk about the accident with the other driver’s insurance company without a lawyer. They are trained to get information out of you to deny your claim.

Fortunately, we can help with that.
