Parents Hospitalized After Daughter’s Boyfriend Hit Them With Vehicle During Argument

According to a report from News4SanAntonio, a man and woman are recovering after being struck by a vehicle during a late-night argument.¹

Police say the incident happened around midnight on Monday, March 2nd, at a home off Blue Oak Lane near Pinn and Marbach Roads on the West Side.

A 27-year-old man reportedly ran from the house to his girlfriend’s vehicle as her parents attempted to stop him. Authorities say both vehicle doors were open when the man reversed the car, striking both parents with the doors.

The 55-year-old mother suffered critical head injuries. The 56-year-old father sustained a broken leg. Both were transported to the hospital.

Police are actively searching for the suspect. They have identified both the individual and the vehicle involved. The investigation is ongoing.

Intentional Injuries Involving a Vehicle: Can You Recover Compensation?

Most vehicle crashes happen because of mistakes—distraction, speeding, or misjudgment. But when a vehicle is allegedly used during an argument or act of anger, the legal analysis changes.

Even at low speeds, a vehicle can cause severe injuries. A sudden reverse movement with open doors can knock someone down, strike the head, or trap a limb.

When a Vehicle Is Used As a Weapon

If someone intentionally drives toward another person during a dispute, that conduct goes beyond negligence. In those situations, law enforcement will likely pursue criminal charges.

However, criminal charges are separate from civil injury claims.

A criminal case focuses on punishment for a crime commited. A civil claim focuses on financial recovery for the injured victims.

The outcome of one does not automatically determine the outcome of the other.

Injuries From Low-Speed Vehicle Strikes Can Be Severe

People often assume serious injuries only occur at high speeds. That is not always true.

Being struck by a vehicle door or knocked to the pavement can cause:

  • Traumatic brain injuries

  • Skull fractures

  • Broken legs or arms

  • Internal bleeding

  • Long-term mobility limitations

Head injuries, in particular, may require extended hospitalization, neurological monitoring, and ongoing rehabilitation.

Can Victims File a Civil Claim?

Yes. If a vehicle was used in a reckless or intentional manner that caused injury, victims may pursue a personal injury claim.

Potential compensation may include:

  • Emergency medical treatment

  • Surgery and rehabilitation

  • Lost wages during recovery

  • Pain and suffering

  • Future medical expenses

If injuries are permanent, additional damages related to long-term care or disability may be available.

What If the Driver Has Not Been Arrested Yet?

An arrest is not required before a civil claim can move forward. Once the driver is identified, insurance coverage and other financial resources can be evaluated.

In cases involving intentional conduct, insurance coverage can become complex. Some policies limit coverage for intentional acts, but that does not automatically eliminate recovery options. Each situation depends on the specific facts and available coverage.

Early legal review helps preserve evidence and clarify options.

What Victims Should Do Now

If you or a loved one is injured in an incident involving a vehicle used during a dispute:

  • Seek medical attention immediately

  • Ensure law enforcement documents the incident

  • Preserve medical records and hospital bills

  • Document missed work and lost income

  • Avoid giving recorded statements to insurance companies before understanding your rights

These cases often involve both criminal investigations and civil liability questions.
