Crime Stoppers Offering Reward for Information on Hit-and-Run Accident Last Month

According to a KSAT News report, Crime Stoppers is looking for help identifying the driver in a hit-and-run accident last month.

Crime Stoppers reported the incident occurred on March 25th at around 5 p.m. on the 3400 Block of West Commerce Street. A 43-year-old woman was attempting to cross the street on an e-scooter when she was struck by a pickup truck. The truck is believed to be an early 2000s model Ford F-150. The driver did not stop to render aid, and the woman suffered serious bodily injury. Crime Stoppers is offering a $5,000 reward for information identifying the driver leading to an arrest. Information can be texted to CRIMES (274637), or you can call 210-224-STOP to leave an anonymous tip.

Did You Know?

Drunk driving during Fiesta 2023 increased more than the previous year’s celebration.

Pedestrian Safety During Fiesta

Fiesta is upon us once again as San Antonio gathers downtown to celebrate the rich culture of our city. Food, parades, dancing, and music will fill the streets for 10 days during this annual festival — and so will drunk drivers.

Drunk driving increases by around 20% during the time that millions will be walking around the city. Drunk drivers and pedestrians are involved in almost all of the pedestrian accidents that happen in this city.

Carabin Shaw wishes you a safe and responsible Fiesta this year. Let’s review some pedestrian walking tips to keep yourself safe during the festivities.

Walking Safely in the City

Don’t rely on motorists to do the right thing — walk smart and protect yourself with these tips:

  • Cross at Crosswalks — Whenever possible, cross at a crosswalk. Drivers are more likely to be looking for pedestrians there. Also, the cars parked along the street will reduce their ability to see you, and decorations along the street will be distracting.
  • Face Traffic — Always walk facing oncoming vehicles so they have more time to see you.
  • Put Distractions Away — Take out earbuds and put your phone down when crossing the street.
  • Make Eye Contact — Don’t assume the driver sees you. Make eye contact before beginning to cross.
  • Walk Predictably — Try to clearly signal your intentions, and never step into the street suddenly.
  • Don’t Walk Drunk — Alcohol affects your decision-making ability and perception, even if you don’t feel like it does. Try to avoid walking near the street and crossing the street when you’re drunk — you’re more likely to make a bad decision that puts you in danger.
