Concerns have been raised with regards to the connection between ibuprofen products such as Motrin, and the potentially fatal skin disease, Stevens Johnson Syndrome or SJS. Stevens Johnson Syndrome or SJS is a diseases that has been linked to a number of drugs, and at best can cause massive discomfort and pain. At worst, this disease can result in death. The manufacturers of Motrin and children's Motrin, a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson, are currently battling litigation for serious health damage caused to a young girl that has been left blind after contracting Stevens Johnson Syndrome (SJS) Daypro: A popular pain reliever, after one year Daypro had a higher rate of SJS than any other prescription Non Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory drug on the market. It has allegedly been responsible for four deaths due to serious skin problems. Although studies have shown it is no more effective than aspirin, it remains a popular treatment because patients need to take it only once a day.

Ibuprofen (Motrin, Children's Motrin, Advil): Even common over-the-counter pain relievers have been known to trigger allergic skin reactions that can lead to SJS. In fact, a 13 year old girl died after only a few doses of Children's Advil, which at the time had no warning labels to advise people of the potential dangers.

Antibiotics: Many antibiotics contain significant amounts of sulfa, which is well known to cause severe allergic reactions in some people. Bactrim and Septra are two antibiotics linked to SJS in some people.

Bactrim and Septra are brand names for an antibiotic treatment. This combined antibiotic treatment is known as trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole. This drug is prescribed for a variety of problems. It can be used to treat ear and urinary tract infections in children, and is also used in the treatment of bronchitis, travel-related diarrhea, and pneumonia. There are a number of common and more serious side effects related with Bactrim and Septra, such as kidney problems, urinary obstruction and bleeding.

The most common - and deadly - side effect of Bactrim and Septra is the increased risk of getting a serious skin disease known as Stevens Johnson Syndrome or SJS. Patients that have used or are using Bactrim and Septra are urged to remain vigilant for any signs of this deadly disease and to seek immediate assistance should any signs of Stevens-Johnson Syndrome or another variation known as Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis manifest. Some Children's Advil is a widely used painkiller that is designed for children aged two to eleven years, and is available over the counter. As a prescription medication which was introduced in 1989, millions of prescriptions were written out for this medication. More recently, it was approved for over the counter sales, enabling parents to simply make their purchase from anywhere from the drugstore to the local supermarket.

The recent controversy relating to various children's drugs that have been linked to Stevens Johnson Syndrome or SJS have included a number of over the counter ibuprofen based drugs, including children's Advil. Parents have been shocked to realize that this popular and widely available medication can actually result in a painful, and potentially fatal, skin disease known as Stevens Johnson Syndrome or SJS. A number of cases have been thrown into the media, including a case where a three year old girl died after

Celebrex: Like Bextra, Celebrex was a COX-2 Inhibitor designed to treat arthritis as well as painful menstrual periods. It contains sulfonamide, which can trigger SJS in people with such allergies. Even though this drug remains on the market it still poses the same threat of potential SJS reactions.

Vioxx: Many doctors consider Vioxx to be the most dangerous COX-2 Inhibitor. It has recently been the subject of legal action due to its propensity to cause severe cardiovascular problems, as well as SJS.
