(June 9, 2022) Two crashes caused by negligent drivers going the wrong way left three people dead nearly a month apart. KSAT12 reported an incident on May 8, 2022, on Bandera Road near Zachry drive, where a driver of a white van going the wrong way struck two vehicles at around 10:30 a.m. He was found unresponsive at the scene, and then he died later at the hospital. The other two drivers were seriously injured though they did not receive any life-threatening injuries and were in stable condition. It was not reported whether or not the driver was under the influence of alcohol.

Another incident on June 5, 2022, found a driver heading northbound on South Interstate Highway 37. The driver of the 2013 Ford Focus collided with another driver of a 2011 Toyota Corolla at around 2:30 a.m., as reported by KSAT12. The driver of the Toyota was sent into another vehicle and then redirected into a grassy median due to the impact. Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene.

Head-on collision accidents usually have very serious consequences. The damage to vehicles and drivers is almost always severe or life-threatening. It is also nearly impossible to avoid a driver traveling the wrong way. The time after a serious accident is emotionally taxing enough without having the additional burden of the legal complexities of auto accident law and insurance companies. Especially if you lost a loved one due to the negligence of another driver, the last thing you want to do is deal with insurance companies who want you to settle for less than your full legal compensation.

(June 9, 2022) Today, on June 9, 2022, at around 3:40 a.m. KSAT 12 reported that an officer crashed into a tow truck while responding to an accident. Police say that the officer was driving over the hill on Loop 410 and Summit Parkway on the Northwest side of San Antonio when for unknown reasons, she collided with the tow truck parked near the side of the road. The officer was responding to a single-vehicle rollover, where a woman apparently lost control of her vehicle when exiting the highway. A tow truck that was helping at another accident nearby stopped to help the woman whose condition was not reported. The officer who collided with the tow truck sustained only minor injuries and was transported to the hospital to get checked out. The driver of the SUV said that she had not been able to locate her dog, a chihuahua mix, who went missing after the accident. The investigation is still ongoing.

In the case of a single-vehicle rollover accident, it is usually impossible to move the damaged vehicle off the road to a safer location. However, if you are in an accident and you are not seriously injured, or if your vehicle is not damaged in a way that makes moving it impossible, it is recommended that you move your vehicle off of the road to a nearby parking lot when waiting for emergency services. In Texas, it is state law that vehicles be moved off the highway for a fender-bender or minor accident. This is in order to keep you, the other driver, and emergency responders safe. Texas highways, especially at night, are not a place you want to be stopped, as other drivers are not expecting it, and visibility can be greatly reduced at night. Finding a safe place off of major roads is a good way to prevent further injury or damage to yourself and your vehicle after a Texas auto accident. (May 26, 2022) Two people are in critical condition, and one person has only minor injuries after a rollover accident on the Far West Side on Saturday, May 21, 2022, according to KSAT News. Authorities are unclear as to what caused the accident or whether drugs or alcohol were involved. The accident happened on Marbach Road and Pue Road at around 12:30 a.m. when an SUV collided with a Jeep and rolled over. The woman driver had to be extracted from the vehicle with Jaws of Life and was transported to a local hospital along with her passenger in critical condition. The driver of the Jeep was also taken to the hospital but fortunately only sustained minor injuries. This happened less than a week after a four-vehicle accident on Tuesday, May 16, 2022, also on the Far West Side, according to NEWS4SA. A driver ran a red light at an intersection at Potranco and Stevens Parkway around 8:15 p.m. No other details were provided, except that at least two people were transported to the hospital. Their conditions are unknown.

It is possible for any vehicle to roll over. However, SUVs and Pickup trucks are more prone to rollover accidents due to their high center of gravity. Although accounting for a mere 3 percent of all auto accidents, rollover accidents are among the worst types of accidents to experience. Because it is likely that the vehicle occupants will be ejected, the injuries sustained are usually severe if not deadly. Sadly, rollover accidents account for 10,000 deaths a year, or thirty-five percent of all traffic fatalities. Sixty-nine percent of deaths in rollover accidents are caused by the motorist’s failure to wear safety restraints. Design flaws can also be a contributing factor. If this is the case, the manufacturer may be liable for damages.

December 17, 2021 – A Colorado truck driver was sentenced to 110 years in prison for a crash that occurred on I-10 in April of 2019 which left 4 people dead. 26-year-old Texas native Rogel Aguilera Mederos pleaded for leniency and the Colorado judge refused, claiming the law prevent such an action. However, as of today, more than three million have signed a petition asking for clemency or commutation for time served from Colorado Governor Jared Polis.

In April 2019, Rogel was driving down I-10 at 85mph during rush hour when his brakes failed, and he collided with dozens of stopped vehicles. The collision sparked a massive fire that shut I-10 down for roughly 24 hours, killing 4 people trapped by the flames. Among the victims was a 24-year-old named Miguel Angel. Rogel had previously failed to utilize one of the state’s runway truck ramps, which the prosecution focused heavily on during his trial. When asked why, he said that he was unaware that his brakes were out, and that he made efforts to prevent the accident.

Auto Accidents happen every day, but when an 18-wheeler is involved the injuries and damage that occurs can be so much greater. It is important to be aware of your rights if you or someone you love is affected by an auto accident involving an 18-wheeler.

At least eight deaths have been confirmed, officials said.

Last week, a tragic multi-vehicle crash occurred in Walker County on I-45. According to a local news report, early last Thursday afternoon, between Madisonville and Huntsville, an 18-wheeler crashed into two other vehicles, which were both stopped due to a crash that occurred previously that day. The crash scene was horrific, with vehicles seriously damaged and passengers in critical condition. A 27-year-old woman and a 4-month-old were both in such serious condition that they had to be transported by air ambulance to Memorial Hermann Hospital in downtown Houston. Additionally, a 34-year-old man was transported by ground ambulance to a Conroe hospital.

Although it is too early to know, there will likely be serious injuries and expensive medical bills as a result of this accident. While the investigation is still underway, if the driver of the 18-wheeler is found to have been at fault, even partially, for the accident, the injured victims may be able to file a civil suit against them under Texas law to recover for their injuries. If successful, this civil suit can lead to the victims earning compensation to cover past and future medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, and more.
