Man Killed and Children Injured in Wrong-Way Crash

A 22-year-old man is dead after being hit head-on by a wrong-way driver at around 1 a.m. on May 30, 2023, according to a San Antonio Express-News report. The 39-year-old wrong-way driver was arrested and charged with intoxicated manslaughter, as well as two counts of driving while intoxicated with a child under 15, and two counts of injury to a child causing bodily injury-reckless, as he had two children in the pickup with him at the time. All of them were transported to the hospital with minor injuries after the crash, and the 22-year-old died of his injuries at the hospital.

Wrong-Way I-35 Driver Hits 18-Wheeler Head-On

San Antonio Express-News reported an accident involving an 18-wheeler on I-35 that occurred yesterday, May 15, 2023. For reasons unknown, a driver was going the wrong way on Interstate 35 near Fischer Road at 2:30 a.m. The driver swerved to miss three other vehicles and continued to drive the wrong way without stopping when he crashed head-on into an 18-wheeler. The police reported no injuries in either vehicle. The driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Gregg Simmons, a former KSAT News anchor, appeared in court yesterday for a DWI charge, according to a San Antonio Express-News report. The former news anchor was pulled over by police and arrested for reckless driving on January 27, 2023, after they received reports of a driver crawling down the road at 20 MPH and making frequent stops. The report further detailed that he struggled through a field sobriety test and was unable to recite the alphabet when requested. Vials of blood were drawn as the officers were unable to retrieve a breath sample.

On April 23, 2023, at 4:15 a.m., a 23-year-old woman was pulled from her vehicle deceased after a single-vehicle accident where witnesses say she drove from the access road to I-10 West, hitting the barrier and landing on her roof, according to a KSAT News report. The police did not indicate that this was the result of drunk driving – however, the citizens of San Antonio are well aware that drunk driving incidents frequently end in tragedy like this for the perpetrator or their victims.

San Antonio Express-News reported an accident on New Year’s Day that resulted in at least two people burning to death after their crashed automobile erupted into flames. The vehicle reportedly swerved across three lanes on I-35 before crashing into a concrete on-ramp pillar and catching fire at 4:30 a.m. on the Northeast side of San Antonio.
