Fatal Rear-End Accident on Highway 249 Claims One Man’s Life in Houston

Rear-end accidents are some of the most common motor vehicle collisions on Texas roads. In part, this is because vehicles travel quickly, and an unexpected slow-down ahead may not leave motorists with enough time to stop. For this reason, it is incredibly important to leave sufficient room between vehicles, especially on crowded roads.

While it’s commonly known that the rear driver in a rear-end accident is generally the party responsible for the collisions, that isn’t always the case. In some situations, the driver that is hit may either share the responsibility or be completely at fault. For example, if the driver up front suddenly slams on their brakes for no reason or slows down to turn without signaling, a subsequent rear-end collision may be all but unavoidable for a driver behind them.

A recent example of a situation where the lead driver may share responsibility comes from an accident out of Houston. According to a recent news report, it was around 8 p.m. on Highway 249, near the Greens Road exit, when a man driving a white car pulled in front of a van before applying the brakes. The driver of the van was unable to stop in time and crashed into the back of the car. Sadly, the car’s driver was taken to the hospital and did not survive the injuries he sustained in the accident.

ACCIDENT INJURY REPORT: Fatal Crash South of Tyler in Smith County

pexels-pavel-danilyuk-6754163-300x200 May 3 ,2021: On Wednesday, April 28, Troopers responded to a two-vehicle fatal crash near Tyler. The crash happened on SH-110 South at Meador Cemetery Rd. south of Tyler’s City limits in Smith County.

Violet Louise Wright, 59, of Bullard, the driver of a Honda Accord, had stopped on Meador Cemetery Rd attempting to enter SH-110 South. The driver of a Volkswagen Jetta, Jessica Karen King, 20, of Lindale was traveling northbound on SH-110 South. It was at this intersection that Wright failed to yield the right of way, entering onto SH-110 South, King hit the Honda that had pulled out into the traffic lane.

Wright was transported to UT Health–Tyler, where she was pronounced dead. King, the driver who struck Wright’s vehicle was transported to UT Health-Tyler in stable condition.

ACCIDENT INJURY REPORT: Two Dead After Tire Separates From Car in Wood County

pexels-pixabay-263402-300x199 Saturday, March 27, 2021, Mineloa, TX: Two people died after the back tire separated from a vehicle and caused a rollover crash on Saturday in Wood County. The driver of an SUV, Robert Guy Marino of Tyler, was pronounced deceased Monday morning. The passenger, Cathy Marks, 64 also of Tyler died at the scene Saturday.

According to DPS, the driver of a Ford Explorer was traveling north on US 69 at around 1:20 p.m. Saturday when a back left tire came off the vehicle, causing the driver to loose control. The Explorer traveled off the road into the eastbound ditch where is rolled over. The driver, Marino, was not wearing a seatbelt and was transported to UT Health Tyler in serious condition where he later died.

DPS said the crash is still under investigation.

Wintry Texas Conditions Leave More than Six Dead in a 100-Vehicle Crash

Because Texas is such a large state, some areas receive more wintry conditions than others during the winter months. As a result, many drivers do not know how to drive on icy or slippery roads, which can result in devastating Texas car accidents. To stay safe this winter season, it is crucial that you drive with care if you must travel, and to limit travel as much as possible when temperatures are particularly low and the weather is icy.

According to a local news report, six people were killed in a major car accident that involved more than 100 vehicles after a rush of winter weather that swept across Texas. Following the accident, multiple people were trapped in their vehicles, and more than 36 people were taken to local hospitals for further treatment and several were in critical condition at the scene. Videos and photos from other news outlets showed a massive crash involving multiple cars, eighteen-wheeler trucks, tractor-trailers, and local firefighters responding to the scene. Vehicles were piled on top of each other, rolled on their sides, or spun out along the sides of the road. Due to significant amounts of winter weather rolling across the state, local authorities are asking drivers to proceed with caution, especially since the roads are especially slick and icy.

According to the Texas Department of Transportation (DOT), several easy driving tips can ensure a safer, smoother, less stressful trip when traveling in unpredictable winter weather.

ACCIDENT INJURY REPORT: Man Arrested in Hit and Run Crash That Killed Stranded Motorist

May 23, 2020: San Antonio, TEXAS–The crash happened around 5:30 a.m. Friday on Interstate 10 near the Dominion on the north side of San Antonio. Justin Antwan Jackson, 29, the driver of the 18-wheeler, involved in the incident is now charged with failure to Stop and Render Aid after his truck rear-ended a red Ford Fiesta that was stalled on US I-10.

The driver of the car, Donna Falkenberg, 46, was killed in the crash. She was pronounced dead at the scene. San Antonio Police said she was not wearing a seat belt.

According to an arrest affidavit, Jackson was traveling southbound in the right-most lane when it neared the stalled Ford Fiesta, which had on its hazard lights. Jackson told police that he tried to avoid another vehicle that appeared to be crossing into the lane next to him and did not see the Ford until the crash was unavoidable.

ACCIDENT INJURY REPORT: Two Killed in an 18-Wheeler Car Crash in Polk County

(March 2, 2020: POLK COUNTY, TX) – A fatal two-vehicle collision in Polk County involving a semi tractor-trailer and a passenger car happened Friday morning February 28th on US 59 near the intersection of FM 942 near the town of Leggett.

According to preliminary reports, a Mercedes Benz E-350 driven by Brenda Kirkling (60) of Houston entered US 59 from a parking lot on the west side of the highway and was hit by a Kenworth truck tractor semitrailer. The semi then crossed over into the northbound lanes and lost the load of lumber it was carrying upon the highway.

The driver of the semi, 44-year-old Jody Jenkins from Brookeland, was not injured during the crash. The driver, Kirkling and the passenger, Lida Autry (58) of Missouri City died at the scene. This accident remains under investigation with the Texas Highway Patrol.
