The Icon apartments were set ablaze at around 3 a.m. on Thursday, June 22, 2023, in what appears to be a lightning-ignited blaze, according to a San Antonio Express-News report.

(February 15, 2023) A four-year-old girl was found dead after being trapped in a trailer that erupted into flames on Sunday, February 12, 2023, on the southwest side of Bexar County. The flames also severely burned two residents of the trailer home, as well as a firefighter and sheriff’s deputy, and two other deputies needed to be treated for smoke inhalation after rescue attempts. This tragedy is currently under investigation by the sheriff’s and fire marshal’s offices, and the identity of the young girl has not been released at this time.

Construction workers are often exposed to dangerous working conditions
(November 3, 2022) Yesterday, November 2, 2022, a construction worker in the Northside of San Antonio was rushed to the hospital after an accident, as reported by KSAT 12. The worker was laying down pipes when he fell twenty feet into a hole, where he remained trapped until firefighters rescued him. Fortunately, the hole was not at risk of collapsing, and he received no life-threatening injuries as a result of the fall. With construction across San Antonio comes risks for the construction workers and drivers using the under-construction freeways. Unfortunately, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) reports that 40,000 injuries a year and three fatalities a day are the results of vehicle traffic and poor operation on construction sites. (June 16, 2022) On Wednesday, June 15, 2022, a man tragically died after crashing his vehicle into a tree while leaving his workplace. There were no passengers in the car, and the cause of the accident is unknown. The accident was reported by a coworker who saw him crash while leaving the building and called the police for help. The responding firefighters and emergency medical staff were able to cut him out of the vehicle; however, he was unfortunately already dead. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The tragic single-vehicle accident happened at around 6:40 a.m. this morning on South Zarzamora Street near Hunter’s Pond, just south of Loop 410 on San Antonio’s South side. The investigation is still ongoing, but officers at the scene mentioned the 39-year-old man may have fallen asleep at the wheel. A Toyota spokesperson mentioned in a statement that the man worked for a supply company to the Toyota plant he was leaving but was not a Toyota employee.
This accident follows just one day after authorities identified Jose Ramirez as the 36-year-old victim of a single-vehicle accident on Tuesday, June 14, 2022. This accident happened at around 2:30 a.m. on the North Side of San Antonio on Patricia and Bel Air drive. He was heading southeast when for unknown reasons, he lost control of his vehicle and slammed into a nearby median. Authorities were able to cut away the top of his vehicle to pull him free, but he was also pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation is ongoing, but authorities stated that speed was a likely factor in this single-vehicle accident.

Last month, an accident involving a construction crane and a pick-up truck claimed the lives of two men. The accident occurred in Jefferson County on Interstate 10, near Beaumont. As is often the case in fatal Texas car accidents, news reports conveyed conflicting information in the immediate aftermath of the collision.
What is known is that two men were traveling westbound on I-10. As they approached a section of I-10 where crews were working on widening the highway, they collided with a crane. Both men were immediately killed in the collision.
Initially, reports indicated that a large commercial vehicle was towing the construction crane, which somehow became dislodged from the truck. As the crane broke free, it collided with the pick-up truck.
