Accident Injury Report – Crash on I-40 Leaves Two Dead, One with Life Threatening Injuries in Oldham County

Tuesday, May 5, 2020: OLDHAM COUNTY, Texas — Two people are dead and another suffered serious injuries after a wreck on Tuesday between a car and semi-trailer on Interstate 40, about 15 miles west of Adrian in Oldham County.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, at about 11:55 a.m., a 2005 truck-tractor with a semi-trailer, driven by 30-year-old Ali Mohamed, of Columbus, Ohio, was traveling west on I-40 followed by Cadillac passenger car, driven by 26-year-old DCarlos Benton, of Rochester, Illinois.

The Cadillac failed to control its speed and struck the semi-trailer. Benton and passengers, 22-year-old Hayden Stout, of Springfield, Illinois, and 21-year-old Tavin Benton, of Fullerton, California, were all ejected from the Cadillac. After the crash, the Cadillac caught fire and burned. Oldham County Justice of the Peace Kristy Homfeld pronounced both Stout and Tavin Benton dead at the scene.

Thursday, April 29, 2020: KARNACK, Texas – A Shreveport nurse and mother of two was killed following a multiple vehicle crash in East Texas.

The crash happened shortly before 10 p.m. Thursday near the Long Point Corner store at the intersection of FM 1999 and Highway 9.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, 48-year-old Melanie H. Coffman and her boyfriend, 54-year-old Richard Phillips, also of Shreveport, died in the crash. Family members said Coffman was a nurse at Overton Brooks VA Medical Center and a sexual assault nurse examiner at the Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office.

ACCIDENT INJURY REPORT: Cadillac Driver Killed in 18-Wheeler Crash in Houston

Wednesday, April 22, 2020, Houston: Police report a driver was killed when he tried to pass an 18-wheeler that was reversing along a commercial street Wednesday in southeast Houston. The big rig was facing southbound in the northbound lane of Nunn Street near Lindbergh Street around 3 p.m. when its driver started driving in reverse, according to Houston police. At some point, the big rig driver started to drift into the southbound lane while still in reverse, according to police.

At the same time, a 34-year-old man driving a Cadillac DTS was southbound on Nunn and attempted to pass the truck on the right but clipped the back-right corner of the trailer, police said. Witnesses said the Cadillac driver appeared to be driving at a high speed when he struck the trailer.

The force of the crash ripped the roof off the Cadillac, which landed about 30 feet away from the car. Firefighters had to use special tools to pry the rest of the car open to pull the driver out.

ACCIDENT INJURY REPORT: Breckenridge Man Dies, One Seriously Injured in One-Vehicle Crash Near Trent in NE Taylor County

Saturday, April 11, 2020: ABILENE, Texas – A Breckenridge man died in a one-vehicle crash early Saturday morning. The accident happened in northwest Taylor County near Trent. “The vehicle went off the west part of the road, struck a bridge, and fell off landing on a concrete barrier below the bridge in the median of IH-20.

A passenger, Raymond Santos Baladez, male, 30 was pronounced dead at the scene. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Mr. Santos was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.

The driver of the vehicle, a Ford F150, a 30 year old male also from Breckenridge sustained serious injuries and a 33 year old female passenger from Anson, Texas received what are described as stable injuries. Both of these persons along with the deceased Mr. Baladez were not wearing seat belts. A minor 14 year old female passenger also of Anson was the only person wearing a seatbelt sustained injuries also. All were taken to Hendrick Medical Center for treatment. Preliminary crash report shows the vehicle was traveling North on BI-20 where it went around a curve where the road intersects with a bridge over IH-20. “The vehicle went off the West part of the road, struck a bridge, and fell off landing on a concrete barrier below the bridge in the median of IH-20.”

ACCIDENT INJURY REPORT: Two People Dead, Man Jumps off Overpass as Tractor-trailer Veers Into Vehicles On North Freeway in Houston

April 12, 2020, Houston: Two people were killed after an Amazon tractor-trailer smashed into several vehicles that were stopped on a Houston North freeway early Friday April 10th due to previous collisions, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

An SUV towing a trailer driven by Anthony Alvarado, 22, with his wife, their children, ages 1 and 3, got a flat tire. While trying to exit the highway, a Mazda 3 sedan hit the trailer and ended up sideways in traffic. A third vehicle, a Silverado pickup truck driven by Tyler Vail, 29, came up to the crash and while trying to avoid the accident ended up colliding with a barrier on the freeway coming to a stop in the middle lane.

During this time the driver of the Mazda and the SUV’s passenger got out of their vehicles. It was also at this time that Abdullah Baidas, 23, who was driving a Chevrolet SUV, stopped to help and was out of his SUV and on the freeway. Then an Amazon tractor-trailer driven Cody Munson, 56, coming up on the scene swerved to avoid but ended up striking all of the vehicles involved and pinning both the driver of the Mazda and the passenger of the SUV and killing them instantly. Abdullah Baidas avoided being struck by the Amazon truck by jumping off of the overpass 10 to 15 feet where he suffered minor injuries authorities said. The 2 young children only suffered minor injuries due to being safely strapped into their car seats. The status of the Amazon driver, Mr. Munson; pickup driver, Mr. Vail; and SUV driver, Mr. Alvarado are unknown at this time.

ACCIDENT INJURY REPORT: One Dead and One Seriously Injured in Parmer County Crash

Wednesday, April 8, 2020: PARMER COUNTY, Texas — A Fort Worth resident was killed and another person was seriously injured Friday night April 3rd in a deadly pick-up and 18-wheeler crash in Parmer County located in far northwest Texas.

The Texas Department of Public Safety officials reported that the incident occurred on U.S. Highway 60 at FM 1381. The driver of the pick-up, Bessy Lainez, 33 and passenger, Vincente Oropeza-Diaz, 33 both of Ft. Worth were stopped on the north side of the highway at FM 1381. Authorities believe Ms. Lainez turned her truck onto the highway and then was hit by the 18-wheeler. She died at the scene. Mr. Oropeza-Diaz was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The semi driver was not hurt. Police said the crash is still under investigation.

ACCIDENT INJURY REPORT: Austin Reaches its Twenty-fourth Fatal Crash for 2020

Austin Texas, April 7, 2020 On the evening of March 30th around 9:20 PM a collision happened that marked the 24th fatal traffic incident in Austin so far this year, resulting in 25 fatalities. Compared to last year at this point in 2019, there were 17 fatal traffic crashes. (APD)

The incident happened along the 5500 block of East Parmer Lane on the northeast side. The driver of a Hummer H3 was moving south over the eastbound lanes of the street when she failed to yield to a 2008 Mercedes-Benz ML3 driven by Cain Perez Estrada, 34. The Mercedes struck the passenger side of the Hummer injuring the two children passengers. The children were transported to the Dell Children’s Medical Center with serious trauma. One of the children, Daminik Lopez, 9 died from her injuries 5 days later. The other child also underwent surgery for their critical injuries and that child’s status is still unknown at this time. The driver of the Hummer’s name has not been released by the police.

Estrada was also injured in the accident and was transferred to a local hospital for non life-threatening injuries. After he was discharged, he was then arrested by Austin police on DWI which is believed to be a contributing factor in this accident.

ACCIDENT INJURY REPORT: Decatur Woman Died in Three-Vehicle Crash in Odessa

Odessa, Texas- Thursday, March 19, 2020: A 39-year-old Decatur woman died Thursday afternoon in a three-vehicle crash, according to the Odessa Police Department. Officers arriving on the scene of the crash found a Dodge Truck, a Jaguar and an 18-wheeler. The crash occurred along I-20 at Grant.

Amber Sahagun was a passenger in a Jaguar that was westbound on Interstate 20 near Grant Avenue and was behind a Dodge Truck, an 18-wheeler, driven by Ranjit Singh 42, of New York, was following the car. Singh failed to control his speed and hit the car, which then hit the Dodge pickup, according to the news release from the Odessa Police Department.

ACCIDENT INJURY REPORT – Fatal Car Crash Upshur County Texas

March 22, 2020 Longview Texas. A fatal car accident occurred about 9 miles northwest of Longview early Friday morning March 19th on Texas State Highway 300 near East Mountain. The collision happened when a northbound pickup truck driven by Aaron Barbosa-Valerio (23) crossed into the path of of a southbound SUV driven by Rucker Steven Murry (65). State trooper investigations concluded that Barbosa-Valerio was traveling too fast for the rainy conditions that morning and lost control of his vehicle.

Murry was taken to the Longview Regional Medical Center in serious condition, his passenger Cynthia Browne Murry (66) was pronounced dead at the scene. Barbosa-Valerio was also injured and transported to a local hospital, his condition is unknown.

ACCIDENT INJURY REPORT: One Dead, Three Injured in Abilene Construction Truck Crash

Wednesday, March 11, 2020: ABILENE, TX – A fatal crash in Abilene left one person dead and three seriously injured. According to DPS, the crash occurred after a construction truck disregarded a stop sign and t-boned a small Ford on the passenger side that was traveling west on FM 3034. According to KTXS, DPS troopers responded to a crash on US 83 and FM 3034 near the Abilene Landfill in Jones County on Wednesday afternoon just before 5:30 p.m.

Troopers found 18-year-old Diego Hernandez dead at the scene. The three passengers in the back seat had to be extradited using the jaws of life.

One of the passengers was a one-year-old infant who was seriously injured. The infant was flown to Cook Children’s Hospital in Fort Worth. An off-duty trooper who arrived first to the scene administered CPR to the baby. Investigators stated the infant was not properly restrained. Abilene Police and Firefighters were also at the scene.
