Transvaginal Mesh Injuries

Transvaginal Mesh is a medical implant device, made by several manufacturers, for the treatment of pelvic organ prolapse.

The meshes are plastic devices, some of which were designed not for pelvic organ prolapse, but hernia repair.

Used with stitches to support organs in the pelvic region of women, they have been found to cause painful and dangerous side effects.

In severe cases the mesh must be surgically removed. In rare cases, due to the development of scar tissue, the removal of the mesh is not possible - potentially prolonging the suffering of these women.

Transvaginal meshes from companies such as American Medical Systems, Bard, Boston Scientific, and Johnson & Johnson have been known to lead to negative side effects. Complications from these products may be associated with gynecological pelvic injuries such as:

  • Erosion (unintended movement through internal tissue)
  • Infection
  • Urinary problems
  • Painful sexual intercourse
  • Pain
  • Bleeding
