If your vehicle was manufactured in or after model year 2002 and before 2008, you may well need a replacement for your airbag. You may also have a potential lawsuit to discuss with a San Antonio Defective Airbag Lawyer. According to the magazine and web site, Consumer Reports, about 17 million motor vehicles made by 10 different auto and light truck manufacturers, made within the above time frame, got unfortunately equipped by the vehicle maker with a Takata airbag which malfunctions all too often. In some accidents, instead of deploying with the proper force and speed, these particular airbags sometimes deploy with excessive explosive force and send dangerous metal shrapnel flying into the vehicle cabin and toward the passenger and/or driver of the vehicle. If any of this has happened to you, talk to us as soon as possible. We can help get you the monetary compensation you fairly deserve. We know these products and the Texas courts in which you have to enforce your rights. Call one of Carabin Shaw’s San Antonio Defective Airbag Injury Lawyers. We want to work with you.

Although the initial recall of the Takata airbags happened in 2008, this and other airbag recalls are still open. Also, a surprisingly large number of motor vehicles are still unrepaired. This is, partially, because of the long and difficult waiting times it can take to get a replacement for the defective airbag. It can be a function of older vehicles being statistically less likely to be taken to a dealership in any situation to have parts which have been recalled repaired. Because the vehicles which are affected by the various recalls of Takata airbags are all between seven and thirteen years old, this can be a big factor in understanding how many of these recalled airbags are actually still on Texas roads today. If you have been injured, and it may have been by one of these Takata airbags, call one of Carabin Shaw’s Defective Airbag Attorneys in San Antonio for your free case consultation today. We are here for you and can help.

Why These Takata Airbags Have Been Recalled

According the magazine and web site, Consumer Reports, Nissan’s corporate representatives have offered the best and simplest explanation of why and how the Takata airbags explosively malfunction, stating, “The propellant could potentially deteriorate over time due to environmental factors [due to many years in high humidity conditions], which could lead to over-aggressive combustion in the event of an airbag deployment. This could create excessive internal pressure within the inflator and could cause the inflator housing to rupture.” (Direct quote)

This statement explains that the metal shrapnel sent out by the explosive rupture in the airbag has caused a fair number of fatalities and injuries in car crashes which involve these airbags in the last eleven years, since the initial incident got reported. As anyone can see, this alleged safety feature sometimes turns suddenly deadly and that older model vehicles which have been driven for many years in humid, warm environments present the highest risk.
