The FDA issued an updated product recall on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, for frozen strawberries sold at H-E-B, Walmart, and Costco in Texas for the risk of Hepatitis A infection. According to a San Antonio Express-News report, similar products sold in other states resulted in nine cases of illness, with three of those cases resulting in hospitalization, though none have been reported in Texas so far. Customers who have purchased these products are advised to throw them away or see a healthcare professional if they have consumed them:
According to a San Antonio Express-News report, an apartment fire broke out at around 1:45 a.m. on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, that forced thirty residents to evacuate. The Villa Hermosa apartments at 327 N. Flores St suffered at least $30,000 worth of damage before firefighters were able to put out the flames, and one man was rushed to the hospital in critical condition due to smoke inhalation. He later died at the hospital and was identified as 69-year-old Gilbert Dauphina. Officials still do not know what caused the fire, and no other injuries were reported.
(February 15, 2023) A four-year-old girl was found dead after being trapped in a trailer that erupted into flames on Sunday, February 12, 2023, on the southwest side of Bexar County. The flames also severely burned two residents of the trailer home, as well as a firefighter and sheriff’s deputy, and two other deputies needed to be treated for smoke inhalation after rescue attempts. This tragedy is currently under investigation by the sheriff’s and fire marshal’s offices, and the identity of the young girl has not been released at this time.
