Xarelto Bleeding Complications
Drug manufacturers have a responsibility to its consumers to ensure that all the medications they sell are not dangerous and the dangerous side effects are clearly stated. In many cases pharmaceutical companies fail to take simple steps to protect consumers when they are more focused on profits than the safety of the consumer.
Xarelto has been prescribed to patients that are going to have knee or hip surgery in order to prevent blood clots. This medication is designed to thin the blood. Unfortunately some patients have had serious side effects including internal bleeding. Because there is not an emergency antidote that has been developed to stop the bleeding the results can be fatal.
Some of the symptoms of internal bleeding include:
- Unexpected bleeding or unusually long lasting bleeding
- Severe or uncontrollable bleeding
- Pink or brown urine
- Red or black stools
- Bruises with unknown cause
- Blood clots and coughing up blood
- Blood in vomit
- Unexpected pain
Patients have a higher risk of bleeding when they take Xarelto along with other drugs that have increased bleeding risks. If bleeding occurs near the brain, lungs or kidneys, it can cause the organ to lose some or all of its functionality. Because Xarelto prevents clotting, the bleeding will continue until the drug is completely flushed out of the system.
