Tread Separation

In a report issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the Federal government reported that at least 25% of all vehicles that were involved in an accident which was tire-related actually had tires with remaining tread depth of less than 2/32 of an inch. Collision with curbs and barriers can make such an accident worse. If you or a family member has suffered injury in such an accident, you may be entitled to compensation. You should call one of our San Antonio Tread Separation Lawyers today for your free no obligation consultation to see if you have a good case for compensation. If you do, we are ready to work with you to get the compensation which Texas law provides you a right to. Our fee is only a percentage of what we recover for you so there is no financial risk on your part. Give us a call.

The tread on a tire is vital to the tire’s functioning, which is why vehicle owner/operators need to replace their vehicle tires as they age and become worn out.

Unfortunately, a number of blown out tires are not caused by worn or old tread, but instead by defects which came about during the industrial process of manufacturing tires. Tire treads which separate while a vehicle is moving can be a very dangerous defect in the tire that may in fact be legally “caused” by the tire’s manufacturer. This is also a defect which can cause severe property damage and serious injuries. When they occur while a vehicle is moving at high speed, these tread separations often end in fatalities. If you have been the victim of a vehicle crash involving a potentially defective tire, on your vehicle or on someone else’s vehicle, our San Antonio Tread Separation Accident Lawyers at Carabin Shaw can be the help that you need in your time of injury. Give us a call and put us to work for you.

Treads separating from the rest of the tire, whether full or only partial, occurs when the tire’s metal belt material, which is theoretically bound to the rubber tread, fails to adhere and “separates” from the rest of the tire. Usually, this metal belt is brass plated and bonded to the rest of the tire with a form of rubber compound which contains the chemical sulfur. These components will not adhere to each other if the brass coating suffers oxidation or the materials’ chemical composition is incorrect.

Typical of the other manufacturing mistakes and design errors which can cause tread separation are:

  • Components which are improperly sized
  • Materials which are contaminated by moisture, oxidation, grease, sawdust, rust or cigarette refuse
  • Bonding agents which are expired
  • Assembly temperatures which were sub-optimal

If a vehicle tires suffers tread separation and this results in a vehicle crash, the vehicle manufacturer may well be legally liable for many types of damages which were caused by their negligent design or manufacturing.
